A good organizational structure should be a real enabler for achieving the organization’s purpose and realizing its strategy. Oftentimes, however, the current organization design is more like a blocker. Legacy structures, ambiguity in scope and responsibilities, informal connections crossing the formal reporting lines, silos, … these are all elements that jeopardize the sustainable success of the organization. Heavy governance gets in the way of speed. Too many management layers make innovation or customer focus impossible, etc.
